Summary
The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts in Little Rock, AR — reimagined by Studio Gang with a flowing, folded‑plate concrete roof that “blossoms” to link multiple historic structures — now serves as a unified 133,000‑square-foot cultural hub. The project’s complex concrete scope includes heavily polished exposed‑aggregate slabs on grade, sloping architecturally exposed columns, and prominent white (Portland) cement structural elements that reinforce the museum’s signature form. Achieving the crisp surfaces and tight geometries required specialized formwork strategies and the use of self‑consolidating concrete with strict spread tolerances across many of these elements.
Bass Concrete’s work on these architecturally exposed systems helped the project earn First Place in the American Concrete Institute’s 2021 Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards (Low‑Rise Buildings).
