Summary

This project is located in downtown Fayetteville, which made material deliveries difficult to execute. Material deliveries were scheduled multiple times a week for early mornings, since the site could only hold enough for a couple days of work. All of the long lead items and bulk materials were staged a couple miles south of the site. A tower crane was installed to unload material, move forms, and set and wreck the formwork. The 52,900 SF of exposed wallface topped out at it highest point at 53′; all but the bottom 10′ was board formed architectural finished. We used 1×6 select pine lumber that was sent to a media blasting company so they could soda blast the boards to expose the wood grain finish. The boards were then treated with Thompson’s Water Seal. We used a traditional Doka wall formwork system to which we then nailed the soda blasted 1x6s to in a random length pattern, similar to laying hardwood flooring. Once the 1x6s were installed, we caulked every joint with silicone and sprayed with a form release. Special care was used when placing and vibrating the walls to establish proper consolidation and ensure no damage was done to the wood. A set of monumental board formed stair were also erected, which gives it an almost floating appearance.
